Because of my performance this past weekend, Coach wants me to go to the Penn Relays as an alternate for the 4×200.
Regardless of whether or not I’m actually gonna run or not, I’m still ecstatic that I’m going. I never even dreamed that I would get to go to the Penn Relays until at least my junior year, let alone this year. The Penn Relays are a BIG deal; only the best get to go. Hell, they have races for people who want to qualify for the Olympics. It’s that intense.
And I’m really happy that I get to go.
I want to get even faster and better and running and jumping. So, along with training this summer, I’m going to be figuring out my 100 and 200 strategies; mainly, how far I should accelerate before I hit my peak so that I can be at full speed while crossing the finish line. That way, I’ll be able to run at my fastest without burning out and losing time, and a lead.
This has been a good few days, indeed.
We won… again.
I came really close to beating my triple jump record of 9.58m (I got 9.56m).
I TOTALLY BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF MY 200 RECORD HELL FUCKING YES!!
Old record: 29.31 seconds
New record: 27.84 seconds
AHAHAHA! I FUCKING BEAT MY RECORD BY 2 FUCKING SECONDS! FUCKING YES! FUCKING YES!!
How did I do it? NO, I didn’t use steroids. Steroids are for losers who need to die. I didn’t over prep, and this time, I ran it differently. Instead of doing it the way everyone was telling me how to (running all out as far as you can as soon as you get out of the blocks), this is what I did;
I was in lane 1, so it allowed me to experiment a little. I ran the curve at 80-90% of my full speed, taking long strides to keep with the pack. Coming out of the curve and into the straightaway, I immediately accelerated to full speed.
And I kicked everyone’s ass.
I could hear Dad screaming things, one of the phrases that stuck out was “You’re in the lead! keep the lead!” and maybe he said “Pick it up!” too, but I can’t remember. I slowed down a little, but managed to pick it up before the end. And damnit I got an AMAZING TIME. I, at first, never thought I’d EVER get below 28 seconds. HA! And I did. And ever since, my mind has been replaying the thing over and over again in my head. I’m lovin’ it.
Since I’m literally about to fall asleep at my computer, I’m going to go take a nice hawt shower and go to bed.
GO BOMBERS!
(go me, while we’re at it, :-D)
So we got the split sheet for our meet at the College of New Jersey. Here are my stats…
My 100 time was indeed 13.93 seconds, much faster than the last time I ran a 100. Turns out, I actually did qualify for NYS B, aka states, but not automatically seeded. I didn’t realize I was THAT fast. Hopefully I’ll be able to run an even better time and qualify for the automatic seed in States. Still, it makes me happy that I managed to qualify for States by running; it makes me feel fast,
Our 4×1 time was 55.78 seconds… not all that good. But it’s not big deal I suppose. The other teams kick ass, so they actually matter…
I did absolutely shitty with long; I fouled all three times… Triple wasn’t too bad. My top jump was 9.28m, not too far from my record, 9.58m, and I qualified for NYS B… still not too bad. Hopefully as I continue to improve my techniques, I’ll qualify for A standards, so I can actually go compete at States. It’d make me feel a lot better.
That’s a lame-ass title. But oh well.
I meant to update on Sunday after I had returned from the College of New Jersey (haha, you all didn’t know I went, either). Anyway, for the College of New Jersey, I think I did pretty well. My 100 pr is officially 13.93, not too far off from qualifying for states. A few tenths, if I recall correctly. Our 4×1 was good, but I don’t remember what time we got. My long and triple jumps were okay, but I’ve yet to beat my indoor pr’s for either.
As for yesterday’s meet, it basically sucked. Mainly because it was cold and windy. But life’s like that. Hopefully I got the shittiness out yesterday so that come this Saturday, when we compete in the Empire 8 championships, I can completely kick ass.
And, oh yea. I’m sick. Again.
Figures.
I actually got back at around 1am last night but I was so exhausted and sore, I like, passed out on my bed. Soooo, now I’m going to tell you how it all went down.
Although they were calling from rain, thundershowers even, it was still absolutely gorgeous outside. I actually did get to do the 200, so my particular order of events went 4×1, long jump, 200, and triple jump. I started at around 12:30, and I didn’t get done until around 7 that evening. It was dusk by the time I went into the locker rooms to shower.
So for the 4×1, I was 2nd leg (I was the anchor, but as people got switched in and out, I was moved back to 2nd). I received the baton perfectly, and I handed off really well too. We did a good job, and I think our time was something like 49.blah seconds. I have yet to find out what my split time is, but I heard we’ll find out tomorrow in practice.
After the 4×1, I had long jump. My best jump was the one closest to my record, which was 4.03 (my record’s 4.11m). My techinque’s getting there, but I’m still having trouble with driving my knee at the takeoff.
Later in the day, I had to run the 200. After all the short bursts of sprints I did for long jump, my legs were actually tired. It felt like my legs when they were over-prepped. I was in lane 2 in the final (8th) heat. We took off, I pulled ahead of everyone before we even got around the curve, and they were in lanes 4, 5, and 6. My time for it still wasn’t as good as i wanted it to be, 29.3something, but I was tired so it’s understandable. Plus I still placed first, so I felt good anyway.
Then after that I went back to do triple jump. By this time, my knee was killing me (don’t slip Dad, it feels better now). I did do all three of my jumps, plus a fourth one because I made it to finals. My best jump was 3.51, a little shy of my indoor record, 3.58m. I was extremely sore from the stuff, but I was glad I did it all.
On another note, I’m actually a little sunburned, my face specifically. Who would have thought? It doesn’t hurt at all, but it itches like crazy. It’s gonna drive me crazy if it doesn’t stop. And I was a good girl and lotioned the burned parts (my nose and cheekbones), Mom. Thanks for letting me know. Btw, is that lotioning thing supposed to be done whenever throughout the day, or is it a once a day, twice a day, thing??
Finally! I’m going to an overnight meet. I’m leaving in about an hour from now. We’re going down to Richard Stockon College in New Jersey, and we’ll be competing tomorrow. So far that I know of, I’m in triple jump, long jump, the 4×1 relay, and maybe Coach remembered to put me in the 200. I’m really excited, and I still have a couple of things to pack. Just my brush, which I’ll be using shortly to do my hair with, and my towel, which is still drying from the shower I took earlier (it’s damp now). So you guys won’t be hearing from me until Saturday night… late. It’s a 5 hour trip and I don’t think the meet is done until around 5 or 6. But I’m excited nonetheless. So I’m gonna finish getting ready, and I’ll tell you how it all goes when I come back! Till then, peeps!
First, I’ll show you my high school records from way back when.
Finished reading? Okay, here are the records for me now:
60m dash – 8.58 sec
100m dash – (not until spring)
200m dash – 29.80 sec
Long Jump – 4.28m (that’s 14’00.05”)
Triple Jump – 9.58m (that’s 31’5.25”)
My comments on these… well, for some reason, I just can’t get myself to top speed in the 60. I think it’s because I don’t have the time to, or something. I’m much better in the 100 and 200. My 200m dash really sucked this past weekend. Why? Well I overprepped for it. I guess it’s because I was kinda paranoid (that last time I had run a 200 was in 10th grade) and all. But when I had finished it (I had practically died going around the last curve), I knew that I definitely can go fast, and you will all definitely see that when outdoor season rolls around, which will actually be in a couple of weeks, wootness!
My long jump is definitely the best I’ve ever jumped, which makes me really happy. My triple jump’s like, WOW. My high school record was only, what, 27’? And the first time I jumped here, I qualified for states with a jump of 30’. Pretty good, huh?
So I’m anticipating either states (if I’m going or not) or the first meet of the season. I’m really excited because I know I’ll definitely be improving my records, and who knows? Maybe I’ll qualify for more events and with better rankings. I’ll have to wait and see.
